Maualuga to enter alcohol treatment facility
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 7, 2010 10:58 AM ET Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga is going to start taking steps to prevent another alcohol-related incident disrupting his career. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Maualuga is planning to check into the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California later this month for "at least" 30 days. Maualuga's stock dropped in the NFL Draft because of his history with alcohol and then he pled guilty to drunken driving this offseason. The linebacker met with the NFL this week, and we suspect he told them of his plans for rehab. http://profootballta...tment-facility/ |

um Rey is in Hawaii and on his way to Samoa today. I highly doubt this is true regarding the next 30 days. Before the season had ended he said he was going back to Samoa for about a month. I am sure he goes at some point though.

Well the NFL would require him to go 2 weeks so he is going an extra 2 weeks. Good to see. He is supposed to be going to Samoa for a month for some charity work, maybe it got scrapped because of this.

I'm glad he's doing this, it's seems like he's taking this situation seriously and getting professionly help for his alcohol addiction. I hope he follows through and becomes a better person aftter he completes his time at the clinic.

No stage 1 does not require it, they can recommend it, but it is not required. Stage 1 they basically only test and monitor the player. But even when they are in stage 1, all substances are banned. Like alcohol, even if that wasn't the substance that got them put into the program. And that lasts 90 days.

And rumor #2 is that Jeremi Johnson is checking into the Betty Crocker clinic.
