I still think he will significantly raise his average sooner than later but .265 with his power isn't too shabby either.

Honestly i despise the idea of being completely speed conscious at the top of the order...Rolen gets on base, which is what you want in the two hole. Tevaras showed last year that you can have all the speed in the world but if you don't get on base you are worthless. I agree that cabrera will be in the 2 hole, but i don't think he is going to put up quality numbers to keep him there. although dusty's old school approach will probably have cabrera there for the duration of the season whether or not he gets on base consistently. as ali said, rolen is a smart base runner, and i love the idea of having a high obp guy in the 2 hole setting up the boppers in (hopefully) Bruce, Votto, and B-Phil. But then again i was one who was in love with the idea of hitting dunn near the top of the order. I hope you are right about Cabrera, but as i said looking at the stats at a sabermetrics level, i'll pull up the stats if you want...cabrera is only a marginal improvement at best over janish considering the loss in range. we'll see how it shakes out and i am not opposed to the signing at all...just skeptical about how d-baker handles it lol. |

Joey Votto .414 Scott Rolen .368 Ramon Hernandez .336 Brandon Phillips .329 Jerry Hairston .305 Jay Bruce .303 That would have made him our 4th best, in comparison, OBP guy last year, but if you remember, he played most of the season for the A's, then went to the Twins, both those parks have large foul territories (Cincy's is about as small as it gets with foul territory) and are known as pitcher friendly parks while ours is more than clearly a hitter friendly park. I understand the problem with defense, but his defense is still above average to good and Janish, like I said earlier, will have to replace him as a defensive substitute late and probably in 15-30 games on the year because Cabrera is 30...Or so I thought. Cabrera is durable, he played in 160 games last year and has played at least 140 games every year since 2001 and at least 100 every year since 1999. Not too shabby at all imo.

I did not until you said that. That being said, he is a contact hitter. He will be able to move them over even if he doesn't get on base. I didn't really watch him last season until he was traded to the Twins, and he was a major boost for them.
Also even though he is older, he can stilll field whatever he can get too. He's a former 2 time gold glover, so he can pick em. |

Hats off to you guys though, ya'll are some troopers. I'll follow the Reds very loosely til it's obvious they're gonna blow again and then pay them no mind at all. Usually by late May, early June, it's a wrap for me with the Reds. Baseball is broke and I can't stand the heart ache of watching a team suck on a daily basis. At least if the Bengals suck, it's only once a week and they can play spoiler. In baseball a shitty team can beat the best team in the league and the best team is all "oh noes, we lost one game out of 163.... big whoop, cuz it don't fucken matter". Can you tell I'm jaded when it comes to baseball?

Whatever. What's next years rotation looking like, I really have no idea. Cueto and Volquez still in there right? Thought I heard Harang fell off a bit, we still got him? Hard for me to give a shit, cuz I fucking hate MLB. I like the Reds, but it's hard to watch 'em suck balls slightly less than the Pirates every year, that's why I don't follow it closely....It's a broken league.

Cueto was dominating til fatigue set in on his arm, this will be his first winter w/o throwing, and should elevate him to dominant status by June, imo. Homer Bailey was the most dominant pitcher in baseball the last 6-8 weeks of last year, and he's in. Harang hasn't been the same since 2007... Arroyo, again, threw the most innings and had the most Quality Starts of all our pitchers (seems like this has been the case since he arrived w/the Reds) And I'm betting either Chapman (the new guy we got) or Micah Owings (who's our best PH, lol) get the 5th spot of the rotation til Volquez returns.

Harang's run support in 08, at least the beginning when I was paying attention was turrible. I take it he's just stunk since then, I knew he had fallen off but I didn't know to what extent. So is it him, Arroyo, Cueto, Bailey, and then another guy keeping Volquez's spot warm for him going into next year?........Edit: Yea, looks like it...I hope so Porterhouse, that would be great.

I've never stopped rooting for the Reds, unlike ONYX, who has publicly stated he only roots for them when they are winning.

ONYX doesn't even root for them when they're winning. Of course, ONYX is the biggest bandwagon jumper on these boards second only to STD
