Default Esiason to Bengals: Get rid of Ochocinco

Quote:
Esiason to Bengals: Get rid of Ochocinco
By Ken Paxson
Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 03:09 PM

Former Bengal great Boomer Esiason isn’t buying what Chad Ochocinco is selling.

I happened to briefly tune-in to the Pro Bowl on radio Sunday night just as Esiason was talking about the Bengals and Ochocinco.

Boomer said that he’s “not a fan of Ochocinco” and that Chad is all about Chad — not the team. He went on to say how he believes Chad’s antics leading up to games each week — like trash-talking defensive backs — get other teams focused because they don’t want to be shown up.

He said the Bengals should part ways with Ochocinco now, but pointed out that head coach Marvin Lewis probably doesn’t have the authority to cut or even properly discipline Chad because of heavy handed owner Mike Brown.

Boomer talked about how teams like the Cowboys and Eagles got better after they got rid of a wide receiver with a similar personality, Terrell Owens.

I’m not sure if I agree with Boomer on this, but I have always valued and respected his opinion. He had a weekly radio show on 700 WLW for years that I listened to religiously.

Boomer always defended the Bengals and came across as someone who truly wants what’s best for the club and its fans. That makes me wonder how much of an asset or liability the Ocho really is.

Is Boomer the head coach of the Bengals? Is he in the locker room? Does he talk to everyone on the team? Is he friends with everyone in the locker room?

Boomer needs to STFU

That's one of the worst ideas he's had yet. Chad's not a team killer, he's a guy who likes to have fun. T.O. and Chad are not even close to the same person. They aren't comparable except in a very general "diva WR" sense.

So you think TO didn't play a role in the Eagles getting to the Superbowl? I don't even have to use my infinite wisdom for this one.

And what the shit does this have to do with orange juice?

I love TO, always have been and always will be a fan.

But he had nothing to do with their playoff run. You could argue that he helped them get to the post-season but using common sense, we know that they had been a playoff team before he got there and after he left...so, yeah. He played no role in their playoff run.

I mean, maybe he remembered to bring McNabb's inhaler he would have been a great part of that super bowl run...But he forgot.

Come on now Ali, you know better than this. TO played a huge role for them that year. Didn't they have a bye in the playoffs that year? He helped them get into position to be able to coast through the playoffs.

Now look, I never said he was a bad player, but to say that he's the reason they made the Super Bowl is fucking retarded when he wasn't involved in either of the playoff games involved. In fact, both those games weren't even close, they could have (and did) win with or without TO and, if you recall, before adding him they made it to 3 straight NFCCG and both of those years had byes? Don't believe me, look up the Eagles in 2002 & 2003.

You guys either forget how great McNabb, Westbrook & and that D was or you are just hyping up TO, but the fact is, he wasn't involved in a single post-season win for the Eagles and they even had success 2 years after letting him go.

Again, I would love TO, because he's a great player and would benefit a weakness, but only on a 1-year lease because he's proven, time and again, that any longer than that and his God Complex takes over.

TO's play in the playoffs was nonexistant because of his injury. Saying that his departure is why they haven't been back to the SB is retarded. Obviously their passing game took a hit without him becaue he's one of the best WRs to ever play football.

But even when he was in his prime his antics and actions outweighed his play. He's still that same guy minus the skills.

I find it hard to believe that anyone actually wants him on our team. Character matters. Your locker room matters. I understand that as a one year rental he looks promising. However, TO plus CJ = no go.

How can you say they'd miss the playoffs or not get a good seed when they had been doing that for years BEFORE him?

Most of TO's stats came in garbage time for that game. Give me a break. He's a first ballot HOFer but let's stick to what actually happened.

boomer is a moron. TO and Chad are pretty much identical people. the difference is the media jumps all over TO and TO has been on teams with immature coaches that do just as much if not worse. marvin and palmer know not to blow up to the media when chad does something stupid they keep their mouth shut and bitch out chad behind closed doors. when TO did something (which he was usually baited into by mcnabb or reid + media first) he would say something stupid then mcnabb or reid would go back at him in the media. we have more intelligent/mature people capable of handling communications with our diva WR. and chad damn well is a diva.

I mean, maybe he remembered to bring McNabb's inhaler he would have been a great part of that super bowl run...But he forgot.
by this logic they cannot make the SB without him.

also you seem to forget that TO was the ONLY person who did shit in that SB while the other 52 people on that team had their thumb up their ass.

Me too. I would say shut up and play, but he never will.
yeah I don't know if I could get rid of it; his mouth doesn't change how stoked I used to get to watch him and those Bengals teams play. but I swear some of his rants are just hard to take. Chad is who he is and that's that. I wouldn't want it any other way as long as it's positive.
okay, maybe he could shut up a little.

Everyone on the Eagles wanted TO.

That worked out great huh?

ESPN reported that it was close to being a 50 50 split. If that isn't the definition of a divided locker room I don't know what is.

No, they didn't. They said it was a fifty fifty split. Here's the thing, if you can get fifteen guys who flat out want you gone, that should tell you something. The fact that it was HALF of the team should telly ou something.

He burned and slashed his way out of the 9ers, the Eagles and the Cowboys. That's THREE teams. Remember the fiasco with him and Garcia? How about him and McNabb? How about him parking in Andy Reid's parking space just to fuck with him?

It is insane to actually try to argue that people actually like him because they don't. The only team that was interested in TO was the BILLS! The friggin Bills. He just came off a 10 plus TD reception year and only BUFFALO wanted him.

He is one of the biggest cancers to ever play in the NFL and the fact that people want to mix him with CJ is hysterical.

Remember everytime he was available the criteria for teams that wanted or sought after him typically were a 'team with a strong locker room, no other big egoes and a player's coach'.

The Eagles, Cowboys the Bills all had that. Look how that turned out. If TO was so good the Bills would be trying to resign him because he's still pretty cheap and will have a contract that will expire at the most two years from now. That'd be a huge plus seeing how it looks like there's going to be uncapped years coming ahead.

But even when he was in his prime his antics and actions outweighed his play. He's still that same guy minus the skills.

I find it hard to believe that anyone actually wants him on our team. Character matters. Your locker room matters. I understand that as a one year rental he looks promising. However, TO plus CJ = no go.
CJ plus Coles, Caldwell et al = lower seeding in the playoffs and one and done. I understand there's potential for bullshit, but I just can't figure how teams are gonna cover those two....Plus Brathack needs guys who don't need his help to make plays, he can't set the table for average talent, all he does is say, "well, those guys have gotta shake loose"...Really Brat, howcome every other OC in the league manages to produce more with less than you do? DC's read his schemes and strategies like an open book, and guys like TO can make it a moot point because they're so good they can get separation regardless.

But I agree, a more head down type quality possession guy would be better for chemistry and chemistry is huge so idk.

Boomer's out of his ever lovin' mind about getting rid of Ocho. That's just dumb. Boomer is still my dude though.
